Reported in The Sibley Field Guide to Birds as “Very Rare” is a Black-headed Gull. We managed to see two separate flocks of these birds on our trip across Alberta and Saskatchewan. This is a lifer for me!

Oh! What makes this different than a Bonaparte’s Gull?

Dianne, good question! The predominant reason is the fact that these guys have red bill and feet and legs, where the Bonipart has black. The Bonipart is also a bit bigger.
