I See You
An Intergrade Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus) close up. It knows I’m standing there, but is too interested in the suet feeder at its feet to fly away. An Intergrade is a cross between a Yellow Shafted Flicker and a Red Shafted Flicker.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an intergrade, but I do enjoy seeing the Flickers on the yard.

Ruth, thank you! I think they only occur where the two types overlap territory. I really like them too! I think the red shafts are predominantly western birds.
