Nature Through My Lens

At Ease

I haven’t had a Stellar’s for awhile. Here is one of our troop. We have five regulars that visit every day and relieve us of a bag of peanuts. A Stellar’s Jay (Cyanocitta stelleri) or Scruffy, if you like!

  1. I love the color of this bird. The Jays do love their peanuts.

  2. Beautiful bird. Always loved seeing them when I was in Canada. Although I can imagine that they eat a lot of peanuts!

    • Adele, thank you! I’m afraid to tally up the number of bags of peanuts they have had this summer and fall! They are such a treat to see up close. They come in, take one peanut and push it down to their craw and then take another, and because of the first one they can’t close their beaks around the second one, so they have to pick one that they can jamb between their beak. Quite often going through 5 or 6 peanuts before they find one that will fit without falling out!
