Nature Through My Lens

Sharpie

The local Sharp-shinned Hawk (Accipiter striatus) likes to come into our yard, and sit on the old bench for awhile. Meantime, scaring the bejammers out of all the little birds!

    • Bob, Thank you! Yes, it’s just the same as the Sparrowhawk! In fact it even eats the same thing! My poor little birds!

He is a beautiful bird, but those talons look deadly. I have one visiting my yard occasionally and I really don’t like to see the smaller bird chased away, or worse, be eaten.

    • Ruth, Thank you! He is quite a hunter. I’m not sure how successful he is around our yard. I’ve never seen any evidence. But I’m sure he’s getting something to eat! He was just here again. Chased a Junco into our patio door. Thankfully he didn’t get it and flew off. I picked up the Junco and held it for a bit and after a few minutes it flew off!
