Nature Through My Lens

Old Peg

Here’s a fine European Starling (Sturnus vulgaris) in it’s winter coat of colours. Only problem is that it only has one leg! But that hasn’t seemed to slow it down at all!

These birds are really quite pretty in their winter coats. I never realized that until some yers ago.

    • Ruth, Thank you! I have a love/hate relationship with them. I love to see them, one at a time and in groups! But, they sure can make short work of a cake of suet! But, I really don’t mind!

  2. Starlings are a very underrated bird. Not sure why really as they look amazing and their song is incredible too. Maybe we see them too often? 😊

In NZ, the seem to compete with mynahs…their numbers grow as you move south with mynahs being more common in the north. Interesting although I’m not sure if there is a direct reason why.

    • Graham, Thank you! I definitely agree with you! They are very underrated here! But, to listen to them and watch a group of them in the air is wondrous!
