Nature Through My Lens

Birds

A Fine Fall Morning

DSCN8809.jpg

A Dark-eyed Junco (Junco hyemalis) perched in the Salmon Berry bush in our garden. The birds planted it, so I guess they can sit in it!

A Hummer for the Day

DSCN8657.jpg

A female Anna’s Hummingbird (Calypte anna) at one of our feeders. The Hummers were quite active today. Don’t know if it’s because of the final passing of our last storm or a forerunner to our next storm coming in!

In the Rain

A Red Crossbill ( Loxia curvirostra) came into the yard for a visit today. It was quite pleased with the offerings at the bird feeders, particularily the Blackoil Sunflower seeds.

Hold that Pose

Here it is. The first camera packing birdie. Trying for a good shot! In actual fact, a Dark-eyed Junco landing on the saucer feeder while the Pine Siskin throws up it’s wings in protest of the visitor.

Perfect Pose

A Stellar’s Jay (Cyanocitta stelleri) presented me with this perfect post. So, I took it’s photo! Background colour bokeh comes from a Japanese Maple. I have feature the Stellar’s Jay a number of times, but I never become bored with this Handsome, Intelligent birds. Especially one that poses for me!

Fall Clean Up

IMG_0041.jpg

This happy little Golden-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia atricapilla) is busy cleaning up it’s little patch of the garden. Either that or it was hidding! It picked up the leaf and moved it aside, looking for bugs and things to eat underneath.

Singing in the Bathtub

Actually this pretty Black-capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapilla) is drinking out of a cup on our rain chain. It seems to like the privacy of this small cup!
