A pair of American Goldfinch males, Spinus tristis, on the Niger Feeder. The whole yard was in shadow with the sun going down except for a beam of light, highlighting these two birds! It was quite amazing!

An American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis) stands on the edge of the bird bath, all puffed up against the cold
Caught in a setting ray of the sun, a female House Finch (Carpodacus mexicanus) She’s standing on our birdbath surrounded by Columbine flowers.
A dominant American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis) male perched on a branch. I say dominant becuase he spends half his day chasing away other Goldies from the feeders in our yard!
A Purple Finch (Carpodacus purpureus) This little guy is a male and he is this years fledgling. See the baby mouth!
Here’s another LBJ (little brown job) all puffed up against the cold wet weather. This time a Pine Siskin, looks quite displeased with the whole issue. Never mind, it’s getting warmer later this week!
