Nature Through My Lens

Towhee

If Looks Could Kill

IMG_3841.jpg

I rarely post more than one shot, but this is the same bird as my previous post.  I just had to post this one!  Seems I was only supposed to take the good side shot!  Sorry, Towhee, I guess I didn’t get the memo!

In the same bush as yesterday, this Spotted Towhee is waiting for a chance to get to the feeder.  Snow, rain and cold weather persist here, so the feeders are very active.

In this time of freezing temperatures and snow, remember that it’s important that the birds have a source of water.  They like us, need water!

On a rainy afternoon this Spotted Towhee is going about his business in the leaf litter and discarded seeds on the ground!

Bright Eye

Here’s a pretty Spotted Towhee in our Rose of Sharon bush.  I love it’s bright red eye!

Here’s a Spotted Towhee in our backyard.  It was at one of our Suet feeders.  This is strange because they usually eat off the ground.  I wondered why, until I downloaded the imaged and realized that it has a deformed bill.  I suppose it is easier for it to eat. Hope it sticks around because we always have suet around!

A Spotted Towhee usually a quiet rustle in the undergrowth, but today in a Pine Tree feeding on Sunflower seeds left by a kind passerby!

Scratching

A Spotted Towhee. It was very energetic in the seed fallout below the feeder. Scratching and backing up, repeat, repeat! Must have been some good eating down there!

Spotted Towhee and Sparrows

This Spotted Towhee is acting as Air Traffic Controller, as the Sparrows come in for a landing on the bird bath. “Watch the snowy patch on taxi way two!”
