Makes a Good Perch Anyway

Not quite grasping the reason for this water feature, the cement birds make a good perch, as this juvenile American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis) will attest!

Rufous

A pretty female Rufous Hummingbird (Selasphorus rufus) checking out the bud of a Crocosmia flower. I’ve noticed that the bird punctures the bud to get it’s bill right inside the flower.

A young male Anna’s Hummingbird on the Crocosmia. He is just getting the colour on his goret! Here he looks so intense!

Spot of Tea

Here’s our buddy the juvenile Stellar’s Jay (Calypte anna), in for a spot of Tea! ┬áMy wife has set several cups and saucers around the yard. They are on posts. Some have water in them, some have seed! The birds seem to enjoy them as there’s always someone on them!

Here’s my Hummer of the day! I almost feel like apologizing for all the Hummers, but they are going mad with the Crocosmias and I have to follow suite!

This is a Anna’s Hummingbird (Calypte anna) female.

Sure Foot

DSCN7125.jpgHere’s a sure footed Anna’s Hummingbird (Calypte anna), male, standing on the stem of a Crocosmia plant. The Hummers are really enjoying these plants as they come into bloom. Must tast Good!!
