In the Rain

We were blessed with another gloomy, wet day, with lots of rain, sometimes with some snow mixed in. Didn’t seem to bother the birds. They were very active at out feeders. Here’s a pair of White-crowned Sparrows (Zonotrichia leucophrys) on the mossy wet branches of our Rose of Sharon.

At Home in the Snow

Well, I don’t know if they are at home with it, but they don’t seem to mind it. This White-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia leucophrys) and several like him were busy at the feeders in our yard.

On Pose

A pretty little first winter White-crowned Sparrow ( Zonotrichia leucophrys) The background colour comes from the sun hitting a Willow tree.

In order to give the birds some shelter this winter, we left a pile of tree trimmings on the ground. The birds quite like it and it attracks a lot of them like this Golden-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia atricapilla) on a very rainy day!

Bright Eyes

Here’s another denizen of our backyard, a first winter White-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia leucophrys) perched on a branch of a Japanese Maple.

I love my bath!

A White-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia leucophrys) having a good splashing time in the bath. It was having so much fun a number of others came over to watch. Then they had baths too!

Fall Clean Up

This happy little Golden-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia atricapilla) is busy cleaning up it’s little patch of the garden. Either that or it was hidding! It picked up the leaf and moved it aside, looking for bugs and things to eat underneath.

In the Sun

A first winter White-crowned Sparrow has this perch in the bushes. Just perfect for taking five in the sunshine.

Another with a Crown

A Golden-crowned Sparrow juvenile.  This little one had been on a feeder when someone bigger chased it onto the Cedar Hedge!

A Savannah Sparrow (Passerculus sandwichenis) with a Damsel fly in it’s mouth.

What does a little bird think when it’s sitting wet and cold on the first day of it’s life when it’s rained! I think this little House Sparrows (Passer domesticus) expression says it all!

Two House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) fleglings have developed a taste for Millet. Seems that what one did the other followed!

The Family Sparrow

Here are four little House Sparrow fledglings! (Passer domesticus). Their Dad introduced them to the suet feeder the other day. Since then they have been regular customers! Where one goes the all go!

Tuckered Out

A female fledgling House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) has had a busy day. Just new to this world she’s learning how to get around. But, all the activicty has worn her out and she has a little rest in a Hawthorne bush. That big thorn will definitely stop her from tipping to the right!
